Rowington Club (formerly Rowington Men's Club) is located in Rowington Green next to the lovely grounds of Rowington Cricket Club.
Membership
In spite of the Club's former name, female members are welcome, as are children and dogs. Some of the Club's bigger events, such as the annual Beer and Music Festival and Marrow Sunday (see below), are open to the public.
Indoor Facilities
The bar usually serves two main bitters (normally Hooky and Theakstones) and two regularly changing guest bitters, as well as all the usual beers, wines and spirits.
There are two full sized snooker tables in the games room as well as a pool table and dart board.
Significant refurbishment took place in 2006 which has transformed the lounge and adjacent Ryland Room into a comfortable and attractive area. The lounge now benefits from a wide screen television which enables members to watch sporting events. The refurbishment is an ongoing project and improvements continue to be made.
In summer members can watch cricket from the beer garden and feast on the delights of the barbecue.
In October 2007 improvements were made to the beer garden in the form of shelter, heating and lighting for those who insist on spending their summer outside whatever the weather. These facilities enable planned outdoor events to continue in spite of the temperamental English summer weather and also provide a smoking area during the winter months now that the smoking ban is in force.
A newly created garden is available at the rear of the Club for those looking for a quieter life in a typical English garden. The garden can seat up to 70 people, making it an ideal venue for family occasions such as christenings, birthdays and small wedding parties.
Events
The Club also plays host to a number of annual events. St George's Day is usually a big celebration with a host of activities including a tombola, a cake stall, a strength competition, skittles, digger driving, a coconut shy, face painting, plate smashing and a lucky dip. This is a great day out for all the family.
Marrow Sunday takes place on the first Sunday in October. Competitions are held for the heaviest marrow or onion, longest runner bean, carrot or parsnip, best jar of jam or chutney, best Victoria sandwich etc. Other exciting activities include ferret racing, pooch racing and welly wanging.
The Christmas programme includes a children's party and an over sixties party and New Year is seen in in style with live music, a buffet and champagne at midnight.
All events held at the Club raise money for local charities. So if you have a local cause that you would like the Club to support, just let them know.
Opening Times
The Club is open every weekday from 2 pm and from 12 noon on weekends and bank holidays.
