Charitable Objects
Rowington Almshouse Charity operates under a Scheme approved by the Charity Commissioners with registered number 500998. The objects of the Charity are to provide housing accommodation for persons in need, hardship or distress, who are resident in the Parish of Rowington or the surrounding district at the time of appointment. Under the regulations laid down by the Charity Commissioners there is equality of opportunity for all new applicants, irrespective of sex, creed or ethnic origin.

Trustees
There are eleven trustees responsible for running the Charity and they include the vicar and churchwardens of St. Laurence Church, Rowington and four persons nominated by the Parish Council. The Chairman of the trustees is Ernest Petrie.

Almshouses
The Charity owns nineteen bungalows in Rowington on a site bounded by The Avenue and Queens Drive. In 1907 eight bungalows were constructed fronting The Avenue and this is commemorated by a plaque on the wall of one of the bungalows. Nine bungalows were built at the rear of the original development in 1973; these are served by Beech Close which leads off Queens Drive. A further two bungalows have recently been completed in Beech Close.

Property Management
Day to day management of the Charity's properties is carried out by Bournville Village Trust, who have a particular expertise in managing almshouses and other forms of affordable housing.

Vacancies
When vacancies arise, they are advertised in the Parish Magazine (The Ferncumbe News), on parish notice boards and on this website. The Charity does not maintain a waiting list.

Donations
The Charity has a policy of maintaining its properties in good order and there is a programme of works necessary to bring the older properties up to the standard prescribed by the Decent Homes legislation, which will involve considerable expenditure over the next few years. The Charity has, over the years, received valuable financial support from the community, particularly in relation to the recent new building works, but would welcome further donations to enable it to continue to provide and improve the accommodation for the needy of the Parish. If you are able to help please contact Ernest Petrie by or by telephone on 01564 783577. Gift Aid can be utilised to increase the value of your donation.
